Gengar, only because it has more resistances than Alakazam, and a wider movepool. Alakazam is still plenty useful, but Gengar just tops it.

depends on what your forte is...

But if your looking for something that can take a hit or two, have a decent punch, and kinda puts the intimidation look on your team. Gengar would be your guy/girl to choose, although im too sure if they have a gender or not.
Anyways My vote is going to go with Gengar.

Although both have there uses Gengar is superior. Gengar has an amzing movepool awesome stats and a few useful immunities. Also Gengar is not a glass cannon.

Depends on the rest of your team. Chances are you'll probly want gengar. Every team can benefit from its immunities and wide movepool. Well, on second thought, just go with gengar. It can do anything Alakazam can do, and can usually do it better.

Gengar, no doubt. Better movepool, better STAB for competetive battles, and three immunities to common attacking types makes him the better choice. True, Alakazam has some benefits like slightly higher Sp. Attack and Speed, and a few nifty moves like Recover, but Gengar's benefits top them most of the time. I used a Gengar on an old Wi-fi team and it was great, definitely chose it.

Gengar tops Alakazam by a longshot. A good defense + good speed + Curse + Destiny Bond + Mean Look + Hypnosis + Nightmare + maybe Explosion + 3 immunities = Gengar is Pure Pwnage!

Chose Gengar. Better stats, good movepool, looks cool too.

Gengar. Though I love Alakazam for in-game, Gengar has more advantages, as everyone else has said. Plus, if you're dying for a Psychic-type move, Gengar can learn Psychic.

I personally believe that Gengar is the superior choice. Gengar is more versatile and less fragile. Gengar also has a wider movepool and can switch into a variety of moves thanks to its unique typing and resistances and set up on an opponent.

i guess you have to take gengar for competetive battling, but i just wanted to say that ingame, alakazam is much better. really, if you're doing competetive, choose gengar, but just in case you meant ingame, which you didn't state, choose alakazam. i'm serious.

I love how everyone acts like Gengar can take a hit, please if your going to compare the two don't start making false things that arnt true.

The only thing that Gengar has over Alakazmn is the 3 immunites to Normal, Fighting, and Ground attacks, and its STAB is awsome for battleing. Since when does a Gengar have the ability to take a hit without the help of a focus sash?
